“Fantasia of Taiwanese Opera” is composed by a contemporary Taiwan composer, Mr. Hsin-Tsai Huang, and it is authorized by Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) in 2011. The piece is the only suona concerto made by the composer. The concerti composed by recent Taiwanese composers display big and magnificent sounds and focus on showing the skills of speed tone cluster. However, this piece emphasizes the delicacy of how the performers control the instruments and maintain the characteristics of suona.

The author investigated the composer’s life and his creative concepts through current literature and interviews. The author also analyzed the materials of the Ge-zi and tried to delve the composer’s way of creation and how he created deep and touching melody. On the basis of the findings, the author provided suggestions of how to interpret this piece from the perspective of constructive performance, and the suggestions were served as reference for future performers.

Through the results, the composer fused the four songs of Taiwanese Opera into his work, and he stressed the unique features of each instrument and performing skills. It fully manifested the dramatic flexibility of suona. The author performed this piece himself and hoped to provide relevant analysis and suggestions of Ge-zi for other performers. From the detailed analysis and investigation into composer’s creation skills and concepts, it is hoped to spark the fire of further creations and promote the development of the instrument, suona.
