The author presents the combination of her identity as an empath with artistic and abstract concepts of musicality in the thesis. An empath refers to a body that physically and psychologically feels the emotions, energies and statuses of others. Due to the extremely active nervous system, an empath may experience varied senses and physiological mechanisms, such as the development of mirror neurons, electromagnetic (fields), emotional contagion, being sensitive to dopamine, synesthesia, etc.

The thesis explores an empath’s perception of living things in the universe through a form of subtle energy without being affected by matters. It further organizes and expands the understanding of abstract art aesthetics and related theories and artists. Art works of Kandinsky, Pollock, and Cy Twombly are juxtaposed with the author’s works by examining the similar process of breaking away from objects and analyzing the relationship between cosmic energy, shamanistic culture, and subconsciousness. Moreover, according to the advancement of different stages of creative research, the thesis discusses and compares the characteristics of works of musicality empathy, including techniques, thinking, and content. The seemingly abstract or religious transcendence actually comes from the inner needs of human beings and our desire for knowledge. Through speculation, transcendental experiences and scientific methods will eventually reach an agreement.
