By exploring the characteristics of consumption, certain characteristics needed to create an art game, and the basis of surreal-style design, the author hopes to convey issues using art games and surreal-style design.
This 2D game creation shows materialistic flow and spiritual deprivation in the digital age. The game is structured as a single-player game, in which players operate their own character to solve puzzles and interact with objects to experience the game's implied narrative. Regardless of the setting or objects, all components within the game are interdependent to the protagonist, symbolizing various stimuli and desires that the protagonist will encounter. “Sugar-coated Coin” highlights excessive stimulation and the consumerism of digital age. The author hopes that players will reflect on the mental bankruptcy caused by a life lived in “excess” by indulging in the game.
