An Analysis and Interpretation of Emmanuel Sejourne’s Khamsin

Looking back to the history of the development of percussion, since ancient, percussion instrument without pitch have been used as a medium to boost the morale of the army or communicate with the enemy on the battlefield; In Classicism, the role played by percussion in the orchestra is nothing more than It is to strengthen the tension and pulse of music; through the ideological breakthroughs of the Romanticism and Nationalism, many musical works have undergone great changes, and the percussion music has been transformed from a small supporting role into a major protagonist who can be alone. This is all through the times of evolution and time accumulates.

This piece was written for Quey Percussion Duo. For the convenience of rehearsal, the composer Emmanuel Sejourne used a marimba and three castanets, as a composition, and the composition mainly describes the sandstorms in southern Egypt.
