The study aimed to probe into lines presented by brushes and ink. It attempted to show the change of gradations and diverse styles of Chinese calligraphy generated from lines and ink color to create space and distance in works. Additionally, it transformed emotions resulting from different races, cultures, technologies and economies in today's society and the author's life experience into emotional foundation for her creation. Upon reading related books and contemplating repeatedly on these books, the author internalized ideas from the books into her own creation ideas which were eventually presented in each work resonating with modern life.
In the process of writing this thesis, the author tried her best to collect theories, principles in documents, works and discourses of calligraphers related to the subjects of her creations, which served as references in writing the thesis and creating works. This was discussed in the second chapter. The third chapter was divided into three sections including “imagery situations,” “pictorial symbols” and “functions and values of Chinese calligraphy” to analyze the types, imagery and application of calligraphy to guide the author's thoughts about creation. The fourth chapter was about the implementation and analysis of creation, and it depicted her works in four series: “imagery situation,” “pictorial symbols,” “social introspection” and “daily life.” It expounded the author's creation ideas and presentation skills as much as possible in addition to recording penmanship, paper and so on. Each work not only contained the author's creation ideas, but also integrated the trend of the times and life ideals. Moreover, quite a few ingenious thoughts about lines, ink color, the styles of calligraphy, the presentation of ideas and layouts were included to share with readers.
In the fifth chapter, the author narrated her creation experience and thoughts and her perspectives on today and future. It is hoped that the presentation of her works can conform to today's calligraphy language and creation imagery that constantly innovates and changes.
