Peninsula Impression in Multimedia Art

文藻外語大學 / 創意藝術產業研究所 / Author:鄭燕卿

Various elements constitute the motivation for this study, ranging from the folk song “Su Siang Ki (literally, missing you)” popular among the elderly, the electronic party at “South of Border,” and the azure coast accompanied with the nuclear power plant, all of which are characteristics of Hengchun, the only peninsula in Taiwan. This study aims to present Hengchun’s geographic and cultural features with mixed media, installation art and video art, and to discuss the creative ideas, theoretical bases, form and content, as well as the media and techniques employed in the various artworks created for this study.

This study adopts literature analysis, artwork analysis and art creation as its methodology. The literature review focuses on the discourse on multimedia art, which also serves as a reference for this creation-based study. The subjects of the artwork analysis are artists’ impressions of the peninsula and their multimedia creations. Twelve artworks in three series: “the faces ”, “grown like rising wind and water ” and “beauty and sorrow ” were created in this study through a process of conceiving the creative ideas, carrying out art experiments, creating the artworks and making final finishes. The works are made of mixed media, combinations of ready-made objects, and videos. In a surrealist style, these works present the peninsula’s geographical and cultural uniqueness through the mixed media used. The peninsula’s geography and culture are also highlighted in the combination of ready-made objects acquired on site, in the style of Neo-Dada Art and Arte Povera. On the other hand, the video, which takes the form of a guerrilla video, is a video-art representation of Hengchun Peninsula’s beauty and sorrow.

The artworks created in the study have been exhibited in the form of

multimedia art . It is expected that the geography and culture of Hengchun can be displayed by the art establishments, and that the traditional art theme can be expressed in a modern way by developing a new style of exhibition from this creation-based study.
