Edwin York Bowen(1884-1961) was an English composer and pianist. His musical career spanned more than fifty years during which time he wrote over 160 works. His compositions each display a unique blend of Romanticism and strong individuality.
This thesis includes five chapters to research the work of York Bowen’s Miniature Suite for Flute and Piano. The first chapter states the research motivation, purpose, scope of the study, methodology and direction. The second chapter introduces Bowen’s lifetime, his compositional style and compositional method of Miniature Suite for Flute and Piano. The third chapter demonstrates the analysis. The forth chapter demonstrates interpretation. The fifth chapter summarizes the above research and makes a conclusion.
