“Ballade op. 288 for Flute and Orchestra"is a swan song written by German composer Carl Reinecke (1824-1910). This thesis consists of biography of Carl Reinecke, history of Ballade, and the background of this composition. Also, by in-depth analyzing the form, tonal structure, harmony, material and specific use of rhythm and orchestration of“Ballade op. 288", this thesis demonstrates the solid form and skillful counterpoint technique of the composer under Romanticism. An interpretation using the analysis result by the author will be presented.
