This paper begins with an overview of the trends of drama texts and performances which flourish in Europe since the 1990s, including British New Writing, German and French contemporary theatre, along with the general situation of drama texts development.
Then I will introduce the concept of “de-contextualisation” in contemporary plays. The two productions Commentaire d’Amour and Unschuld I took part in also belong to the group of contemporary European plays, and both of them have the characteristic of de-contextualisation.
Lastly, the concept of de-contextualisation is served as the key point and I will explain how my lighting design ideas were developed according to this concept in the two productions with more details. The following part will focus on the design process of constructing my lighting scenes, and the review of the final outcomes.
