The Performing Arts of Taiwanese Lān-thȃn-hì (Luantan Theatre) Actress A-Chih Lee

A-Chih Lee is a Luantan Theatre actress who has become a professional Luantan Theatre actress over 50 years. During her performing arts career, A-Chih Lee had also learned the local Taiwanese Opera in Yilan and Siping Opera. A-Chih Lee, however, becomes one of the best Luantan Theatre actress after she was mentored by Bing-Ding Yu in Luantan Theatre. Moreover, A-Chih Lee is able to play multiple roles of Luantan Theatre such as main female role(正旦), main senior female role(老旦), main male role(小生), main senior male role(老生), et cetera. With her innate body shape and beautiful voice, she is sophisticated at main female role (正旦),yet she is also proficient at comic role(三花)which contrasts with main female role. A-Chih Lee has dedicated her life to Luantan Theatre. Not only is A-Chih Lee a Luantan Theatre actress, but she has founded and managed a theatre troupe, and she currently starts training young actors. This essay will outline the experiences of A-Chih Lee from being an actress, managing a troupe to educating younger generations. It will then look at two examples Poisoned Tea《藥茶計》as well as Attack on Dengzhou City《打登州》 to analyze the features of the main female role and buffoon that were played by A-Chih Lee, which aims to approach the essence of the arts of Luantan Theatre.
