Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827), one of the most representative composers of the classical period, composed a lot of works that bring remarkable influences on succeeding generations. Beethoven’s thirty-two piano sonatas holds an irreplaceable place among classical keyboard works. He worked on the piano sonatas more or less consistently throughout his life, contains every emotion Beethoven was capable of expressing.
This thesis studied Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in C Major, Op. 2 No. 3. The full text is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is an introduction of the dissertation, introducing the motive, objectives, scope and method of the research. Chapter two discussed the three periods of Beethoven’s piano sonatas. Chapter three focused on the background history and the form analysis of this sonata. The next chapter concentrates on the musical interpretation of this work. Finally, chapter five is a conclusion of this research.
