This work, "Human Calamities", aims at creating a realistic future world by using 3D computer animation technique. I hope, via the expression of cinematic language, to describe the influence of technology development on human beings and the environment from a human point of view. Furthermore, using specific symbols and image, I want to present the metaphor of the post-modern social phenomenon. It is expected that certain reflection on this topic can be provoked in the dialogue between the audience and the work, and therefore helps the viewer concern about the living environment.
Chapter one, introduction, includes background, motive and aim of creation, the synopsis of the story and the process and structure of the work. Chapter two is a research. It analyzes the narrative structure in the film, and discusses the visual language and the aesthetic theory of the 3D computer generated image by comparing it with film. It therefore concludes the specific characteristics of 3D animation medium. In addition, this chapter also mentions certain topics of creation, including the risks of human existence now and a future of conjecture, with the hope of understanding the situation of high technology and related works to evoke further inspiration. Chapter three explains the character and idea of this work, including the point view in the cinematic language, metaphors of symbol and images, and the spirit of post-modern art. At last, it brings in the whole work from storyboard and design, and personal experience and expectation in art creation. From above, I hope to set up my personal style in digital art creation.
