Moving Resonance- AudioVisual Performance

國立臺北藝術大學 / 新媒體藝術學系碩士班 / Author:Hsin-Jen Wang

Audiovisual is a form of creation that integrates sounds and images, and it can be divided into two main categories: (I) to create images that correspond with sounds (II) to create sounds that correspond with images. Although they are both considered Audiovisual, they have very different approaches to create artwork. Our discussion in this paper is focused on the latter one, which is to create sounds that correspond with images.

In this paper, the colors and shapes of images represent the frequencies and amplitudes of sounds relatively. The motion of dynamic images is transformed into regular sound waves, and when multiple visual objects move simultaneously, the relative sound frequencies are synthesized and become an overtone. In a performance, artists lead the audience to understand their work through real-time interface operation. Cursor works just like a pointer, and movements such as clicking or dragging are all meaningful, they serve as virtual hands of the artist.

”Moving Resonance” series is inspired by life experiences, and it is divided into three stages. The different algorithms and logics behind these three stages represent the artist’s attitudes toward life. Both sounds and images in the work are derived from algorithms, which not only enhances the relationship between sounds and images, but also helps the artist to be closer to the audience.
