In the respect of land and the population structure in Minsying in Chiayi, it can not be compared with metropolitan countries and towns. However, it is a nice place connected with culture, education and tradition. Especially, there are three universities: National Chung Cheng University, National Chiayi University, and WuFeng Univerisity, and also another university, Nanhua University, whose professors and students mostly live in Minsyong. Moreover, there are still three senior highs schools and nine elementary schools. As to historic culture, there are Hsiao Wu-Lung Koji pottery, the only National Broadcast Museum in Taiwan and the third-rank historic relics, the Da-Shih-Ye Temple. Therefore, Minsyong is the place full of culture, education and traditional history. What’s more, every year from July 21st to July 23rd in the Lunar Calendar, which attracts numerous visitors from everywhere.
However, during the worship in the Da-Shih-Ye Festival, most people pay attention only on the paper statue of the Da-Shih-Ye or they are instructed by the temple to burn six incenses, follow other people’s footsteps to visit the sacred temple, and then put incenses into the censer. Seldom people would pay attention to the statue of gods or stone sculptures in the temple.
Hence, the study keeps an image record of the statue of gods and the stone sculptures which are put in the inconspicuous places, and then to investigate the statues of gods’ characters and their historic origins; also, to investigate the meanings of the stone sculptures. Hope to view from different points to explain the statue of gods and the stone sculptures in the temples, and then intend to bring worshipers and visitors visible effects or thought inspiration after they visit the temple from different viewpoints. Therefore, the final purpose of region is not only to bring people spiritual comfort but also a custom to regulate people.
