The Roar of the Beast is a cross-disciplinary performance integrating contemporary dance, theatrical narration, and live music, developed in response to the audience’s increasing detachment from abstract dance. Using the fairytale Beauty and the Beast as a narrative framework, the work reconstructs character archetypes and symbolic relationships to examine how emotional connection can be reestablished through non-verbal storytelling. Key strategies include substituting spoken dialogue with live viola performance, structuring movement according to vocal dynamics, and reimagining musicians as embodied, visible characters onstage. This practice-based research reflects on the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration, the negotiation between bodily poetics and narrative clarity, and the process of co-creation across fields. The project offers an applied methodology for future narrative experimentation in contemporary dance.
