Achille-Claude Debussy(1862-1918) was a French composer of the late nineteenth century and one of the founders of Impressionism music. This sonata was the only cello sonata during Debussy's lifetime, written in 1915. Debussy suffered from World war I and cancer during that period. He hoped to arouse the unity and national character of the French people with the Cello Sonata. This Cello Sonata was dedicated to his wife, Emma Debussy(1862-1934).

There are five chapters in the thesis. The first chapter is an introduction, discussing the research motive, purpose, scope, and materials. The second chapter introduces Debussy's biography, music style, creative background, and materials. The third chapter is the analysis of music texture and ways of interpretation. The fourth chapter includes technical skills used in the Cello Sonata and individual opinions of the Cello Sonata. The final chapter is the conclusion of the research.
