Instrumental ensemble is a very important part of music programs in elementary schools. However, the music program for students of fourth grade and above mostly focus on recorder practice and ignore the possibility of other instrumental development, resulting in less instrument interest of students as well as reducing the acoustic stimulation of students. Therefore, the researcher plans to use the Orff-Schulwerk instrumental ensemble course as appropriate to enhance instrumental knowledge of fourth graders for them to improve their musical ability and increase their interest in instrumental ensemble.
The purpose of this study is to discuss the learning effects and interests of fourth graders and the fulfillment course of teachers as applying Orff-Schulwerk in instrumental ensemble. The action research is adopted by taking 7 boys and 10 girls in class 4A, total in 17 students of Happy Elementary School (assumed name) in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City as subjects. The researcher has designed teaching projects and evaluation for 12 classes by speaking, grooving, creation, rounds and instrumental ensemble and recorded the fulfillment course. Meanwhile, the data regarding “teaching self-evaluation and reflection table, “teaching observation record”, tempo and listening ability scale”, “instrument ensemble interest scale” collected are analyzed via statistical methods. The results of this research are as follows:
1.The application of Orff-Schulwerk in instrumental ensemble may improve the learning effects of fourth graders
2.After Orff-Schulwerk is applied to instrumental ensemble course, the fourth graders are interested in learning.
3.Through the course design, implementation, reflection and revision process of Orff-Schulwerk in instrumental ensemble course, the researcher has improved personal proficiency growth.
According to the research results, researchers provide suggestions to music education workers, school administrators and future research orientation as references of education related teaching and research.
