Borders and repetitions — on Bangyan Chen’s artworks

國立臺灣藝術大學 / 雕塑學系 / Author:CHEN, BANG-YAN

This article is a creative research paper, mainly taking Chen Bangyan's postgraduate sculpture works as the research object, discussing and presenting Chen Bangyan's creation logic and research results. In Chen Bangyan's creation, Chen Bangyan summarized his creative methods into two, one is the dimensionality reduction work method, that is, to simplify the appearance of the creative materials and deal with them in a two-dimensional outline. The second is the way of repetition. The two methods free the creator from the cage of image imitation, so that the creator can decode and encode the image more freely. Chen Bangyan uses 3D printing, ready-made products, etc. to select and practice art on the basis of two-dimensional boundaries. This article uses document annalysis to demonstrate through the artist’s case, art history and aesthetic viewpoints. After the author combs and analyzes, discusses the boundaries and repetitions of Chen Bangyan’s creation from different aspects of the artist’s labor, time dimension and space. He then sorts out Chen Bangyan’s creative context, hoping to extend a knowledge system with time value through Chen Bangyan’s self-analysis.
