Abstract

The study is based on the reflection and discussion toward the locality of Tainan culture from various viewpoints. Being assimilated by the environment, we easily forget the unique connections with our hometown. Based on the affections for the hometown, the researcher investigates the uncertain feelings towards the hometown and explores possible definitions of local culture. By picturing the parts of personal memories and life experiences, the researcher tries to conclude “Getting Close to the Hometown” as the final goal - as the basis for the future painting creation.

According to the above reasons, the aims of the study are as following: Firstly, examining Deconstructionism and Neo-expressionism painting in order to construct the creative ideas and manifestations of “Getting Close to the Hometown”. Secondly, creating and analyzing the artworks of “Getting Close to the Hometown”. Thirdly, establishing the direction for the painting creation in the future through self-reflections and practices the series of painting works. The methodologies of the study include theoretical analysis and action analysis.

There are five chapters in this painting creation discourse. Chapter one, introduction, includes the research motivation, purpose, methodology, steps and the confinements of the study; Chapter two, theoretical study, investigates the theories of postmodern art and visual psychology; Chapter three, examining of concept and style of the painting creation; Chapter four, artworks interpretation; Chapter five, conclusion.

During the researching process, the researcher investigates the cultural elements repeatedly which is so familiar to him. Expecting, a new personal definition of the hometown, Tainan, could be better and blazing.
