In recent years, Amy Beach's music and creative ideas have been studied by many scholars. She is one of the most influential musicians in the United States from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
Mrs. Beach lived in a transitional period from the romantic period of music to the modern period of music. In addition, growing up in a multicultural country like the United States, her music is very diverse. In her music creation, she has applied traditional music materials. Variations in Balkan themes Op. 60 is one of them.
The purpose of this study is to analyze selected solo piano compositions of Mrs. Beach. Chapter I presents the need and purpose of the study. Chapter II is an overview of Mrs. Beach's life and Variations on Balkan theme Op, 60. Chapter III discusses the folk elements and composition techniques. Chapter IV provides performance suggestion of "Balkan theme variations".
