Memory is an important and priceless asset to everyone, which contains people’s growth and development, scenery, and emotion. The author can recall the memory and emotion of Hong Kong throughout the creation process. Although memory sometimes will become vague, the creation allows the author to have a deep conversation with the memory.

During the process of research, the author tries to look for the possibility of creation with the reference to the author’s memory and the things in Hong Kong. The art series combines Chinese calligraphy and paintings, which are developed from the author’s memory and emotion, to express the perception of Hong Kong and build up the Hongkongers’ collective memory.

This creation dissertation is composed of five chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction: The research motivation, purpose, content, methodology, definition, and explanation of related terms. Chapter 2 The creation concept and theoretical framework: The creation concept is about the author’s memory, emotion, observation, and imagination of Hong Kong. The series of artwork are based on the memory of the author’s childhood, adolescence, and early childhood. Chapter 3 Creation practice: By transferring the author’s memory, observation, and life experience into symbols for creation. Chapter 4 Interpretation and analysis of artwork: The description of the idea, process, and content of each piece of the artwork. Chapter 5 Conclusion: The author’s reflection on the dissertation result and the expectation for the future.
