2D artwork can be divided into two categories: the first one is simply depicting the objects that the painters see. The objects or the paintings do not infer any implicated meaning. The second type of paintings contain some stories in the artwork. These type of paintings provide a new meaning for the painters’ thoughts and the implication of the paintings in a visual way. This study only focuses on the second type of painting, discussing how the connotation and implication can be represented by the ideas, thoughts and messages of the artist through the paintings.
The introduction explains the motivation, purpose, research methods, steps and the area of research to clarify the aim and the direction for this study. The second chapter, Connotation and Implication, discusses the connection between the paintings and the meanings behind them. This chapter will talk about how connotation and implication are represented in the Eastern and Western paintings, including how symbols and meanings are shown in the artwork. It also discusses different ways to present the paintings that have literary associations inside and the artistic conception in the eastern ideology.
The third chapter discusses how the artist created her works, focusing on the creation’s forms and the materials that were used. The forth chapter contains the artwork and its analysis. The work are separated into three sections based on the topics that were discussed in the previous three chapters. The first section is based on the fairy tales and literature, which is also the topic for this series of work. The second section is the Human Life Happiness series: this series of work used animal and human figures to transform and depict the meanings behind my paintings. The third section is the Flower Dialect series: the topic for this series of work are flowers and plants. The painter used the gesture of plants and the meaning of flowers to convey her ideas and thoughts through her works. These three series of work depict and illustrate the experiences and thoughts in the artist’s daily life, trying to transforming ideas into exact visual images, not just abstract ideas.
Meanwhile, the artist expresses a desire to find her own methods of expression. The topics of the work includes the artist’s wandering thoughts and daily murmurs of familiar stories and through these, she hopes her work can have different appearances, so they can communicate with more audiences, even evoking their thoughts and emotions deep inside their hearts. Through the artwork, the artist desires to express her feelings and trigger or stimulate the audiences’ thinking and perception, in order to have more communication and connection with them.
