The purpose of this production report is on explaining how I utilize subjective color arrangements to match the atmospheres and rhythms of plots. By various means such as Color Psychology, color images, and different life experiences, same color may have different explanatios, which can be used to analyze the development of story in plays and the deep inners of characters. The discussions of how characters use colors in their own spaces, and how they develop their emotions through different interpretations of color senses and knowledge of Color Cognition are also included.
In this report, I take two productions, Lee Bonnes and Unschuld, as my case studies. With the help of Aesthetics concepts and color composition methods I learned in college along with my study of set design in undergraduate classes, I tried to find the proper application of colors in scenes according to narrations about characters’ emotions. I aimed to build a meaningful performing area based on colors corresponding to those emotions, and creat the space design concept that was conceived from visual colors.
In the process of putting my design ideas into practice, I started from the texts and then stepped to spatial layout of sets and the using of colors, in order to bring out the tiny emotions hidden in the visual images. Throughout my productions, the choices of space layout and composition also reflect my advantages and weakness in set design.
