Anton Bruckner(1824-1896) was a representative composer of the Romantic era. Bruckner’s three great Mass dated from his period as cathedral organist in Linz. The second Mass was commissioned by the Bishop Rudigier(1811-1884) for the consecration of the Votive Chapel. He finished the work in 1866. This work was scored for eight-part mixed chorus and fifteen wind players. The wind band was in a background role. Bruckner successfully blended his own particular approach to harmony and counterpoint. The second Mass illustrated Bruckner’s unique style. It was a work of inspiration, individuality, and craftsmanship.
