This ceramic art project, Silent Whales, comprises five series centered around the symbolic image of the whale, reflecting the emotional responses and transformations I experienced while teaching young children. The creative process involved continuous self-reflection and inner dialogue, fostering both emotional healing and artistic growth. In response to the increasing pressures of contemporary life, this work explores “healing” as a shared human need. Through the tactile and symbolic qualities of ceramics, the project seeks to offer viewers a sense of calm and emotional resonance.

The first three series—Whale Fall, Whale Song, and Whale Leap—draw inspiration from whale behaviors to represent shifts in emotional states. Clay serves as the primary medium, complemented by other materials and colored epoxy resin to enhance a therapeutic effect. The fourth series, Tóng Tóng, features small whales surrounding the earlier works, symbolizing the educational environment in which I work. The final piece, a wall-mounted semi-relief also titled Silent Whales, uses pure white and subtle color transitions to express the quiet fluctuation of emotions.

Each piece is presented with varied forms and postures, using a picture book–inspired aesthetic to create a gentle, non-oppressive viewing experience. Through this project, I explore personal healing, artistic expression, and the potential of ceramic art to convey emotional depth and inner peace.
