Roger Quilter (1877-1953), the great English composers of the twentieth century. His works are primarily song, and he created 139 songs. He reached the permanent position in musical history only by song; he has been hailed as “Singer composer”.

This thesis first mentioned the background of Roger Quilter and his art songs, then goes into the life of the poet Robert Louis Stevenson, whose poem Quilter applied to his work, Four Child Songs. Hoping to be able to have a more profound understanding of this work, and more faithful rendering of the idea of Quilter. The purpose is to provide a good resource and information about the form, structure, background, harmony and interpretation for the readers who are interested in the music.
