Gabriel Faur�薄]1845-1924）was one of the greatest French composers between late 19th and early 20th. He was a famous pianist, organist, and educator. Instead of being confined by tonality, his works retained traditional spirit of France. The musical expressions were elegant, crystal, simple and moderate without being exaggerate. Rich variations in harmony and timbre made his works notable and unique at that period.

“Fantasie,” composed by Faur�� as the designated song on flute for graduate examination of Conservatoire National Sup�臆ieur de Musique would be discussed in this thesis. Chapter one: introduction—describing the research motive, literature review, research scope and method. Chapter two: composer Faur�薄存 biology, discussions of his music style, and compositional techniques. Chapter three: study of the background information about the creation of Fantasie—through aspects of pitch, rhythm, texture and musical forms to analyze it. Chapter four: personal performance and interpretation of Fantasie. Chapter five: conclusion—hope through the journey of researching “Fantasie” in this thesis would give readers a glance of Faur�薄存 profound and beautiful music world.
