Floral arrangement is a traditional art which create connection between the nature and human emotions. Since the ancient time, Chinese people have the thought of “unity of nature and human”, which means that human life can be presented through materials from nature with the appreciation of beauty and creativity. In this study, the history of floral arrangement related to bamboo is reviewed, and design of the exhibition by bamboo is presented.

Bamboo has long been a symbol to express the power of humble, strength, and flexibility, and “symbolism of bamboo” is the central idea of this study. Art works with bamboo have been presented in different forms, including painting, literature, and also the floral arrangement. Through four different design categories of Chinese floral arrangement: intellectual, realistic, expressionist, and formative, bamboo expressed its different characteristics. Based on these concepts, the art exhibition of floral arrangement designed to express each life stage of bamboo, from born to death, from small to large, from young to old, from spring to winter, and from green to yellow. Accompany with other materials, bamboo can play different roles and show different meanings without losing its value even when it plays a small role.

From the creation of floral art for bamboo, the potential power of bamboo has been presented. Through the life of bamboo, a principal idea of life expressed to us is standing firm, keeping lift up, and being humble. Moreover, to play every role well brings beautiful and meaningful value of life.
