The Analysis and Interpretation of Dominick Argento’s Six Elizabethan Songs

Dominick Argento (b.1927) is a distinguished American composer in 20th century. Argento was commissioned Six Elizabethan Songs by his friend when he went to Florence in 1957 and the cycle was premiered in 1958.The lyrics are selected from the poets of the Elizabethan period. Elizabeth I was the last monarch of the House of Tudor. The reign of Elizabeth I was the golden age of English drama and literature and had influence on English literature and art.

The thesis focus on the biography of Argento ,the style of his art songs, culture and poetry of Elizabeth I, the life of five poets,the music analysis and interpretation of Six Elizabethan Songs.
