Abstract

This thesis is focused on the author's own work and experience in painting portraits. The argument is developed by looking at the techniques, instruments, production process, media and performance features of portrait drawing.

By adopting methods of literature review, juxtaposition of illustration and text, and 'creative practice', this study examines whether personal creation achieves its expected goals and what effect it has.

As a creative study, it also aims to advance the efforts of past in the field of portrait drawing and to think about the possibility of its innovation in the future.

The study includes three main parts as follows:

1. understanding the historical development of Chinese portrait drawing.

2. exploring the media and techniques of portrait drawing.

3. elaborating the idea and practice of portrait drawing.

The research is based on people I had contact with a trusted valet portrait 's main works , objects, including family members, teachers , friends and themselves, through creative practice supplemented by theoretical analysis, to establish the author's creation and future goals Prospect.
