Lowell Liebermann (1961-) is one of the most prominent and active composers in United States,even the Wall Street Journal once praised him as a "Superior Composer." Liebermann's Flute Concerto, Op. 39 shows his unique style combined with traditional style,and this attractive style can be listened and discovered both in flute and orchestra or piano accompaniment.He also composes for piccolo. His piccolo concerto has greatly improved the status of this instrument and he became one important role in modern flute music. Considering the composer Lieberman is still alive and there are few references, very few people choose this work as the topic of analysis. The author hopes that through this research, a deeper understanding of Lieberman's unique style of modern composition can be showed.
This essay is composed of three parts. The first part is an in-depth study of Lieberman's life achievements and composition’s background. The second part is to analyze the structure of his concerto. The third part is the interpretation and discussion based on listening to various versions and the author's personal performance experience.
