The issues of children's health and growth have always been the focus of the whole society, and the medical institutions for most children are the places where they have to face in their growth. However, the oppressive and serious environment most of the hospitals might make children anxious and disturbed. In some countries, children's medical institutions have already created friendly space for children, and these institutions have even integrated interactive sensing technology into the medical environment and signage. These integrated systems with audio and video images can stimulate children's curiosity and encourage them to explore the environment, which can increase their familiarity of the environment and reduce their fear of the medical institutions. On the contrary, there are only a few hospitals which design this kind of friendly environment for children in Taiwan, not to mention the integrated interactive sensing technology system. For example, National Taiwan University Children's Hospital is the leader of children's medical field in Taiwan, but they do not pay attention on specialized environmental design for children, which will not be able to provide a friendly environment for children and relieve their anxiety and fear. In view of this, this study focuses on the integration of interactive sensing technology and environmental signage system in NTU Children's Hospital, and re-designs an interactive environment signage system dedicated to children's hospitals. By interactive sensing technology, we could improve the interaction between children and the medical environment, thus increase their familiarity with the environment, and relieve their fear and anxiety about the medical environment.

This research is based on the interaction between children and the medical environment to integrate interactive sensing technology into environmental signage system, and design an interactive environmental signage system based on children's physical, psychological and cognitive development. First of all, I comprehend the principles of integrating environmental signage system and interactive sensing technology in children's hospitals through literature. Then I learn the interactive environmental signage system design essential by the analysis of foreign children's hospital interactive environment signage system, and combine above results with field visit to Taiwan University children's hospital to develop the design concept, design process, and design strategy. Next, I start the design of the system and questionnaire, and conduct the first exhibition and questionnaire survey. In addition, I have improved my design according to the feedback of the first exhibition and questionnaire. Finally, the second exhibition has been conducted,Through above literature discussion, case analysis, creative research, questionnaire data analysis results and design exhibition, we can summarize the following four conclusions:1.The anthropomorphic images is highly amiable and attractive to children, which can effectively attract children's attention and reduce the anxiety and stress of them when they go to medical institution. 2.The use of interactive sensing technology in the environmental signage system can effectively attract children's attention and encourage them to interact with the medical environment, thus reduce their anxiety and fear of medical treatment. Moreover, we usually use more than two kinds of design in the planning of the interactive environment signage system, so children can have more sensory feedback. 3.By adding dynamic image design and the concept of the game into the interactive environment signage system can encourage children to interact with the medical environment. 4.The key of the success in the integration of interactive design and environmental signage is the interactive process planning and the settings of interactive sensing context. It is better to use linear model in the settings of interactive sensing context, and the interactive object should be relevant to the hospital's environmental design or environmental signage system, so children can participate in the medical environment in the most natural way.
